Disability insurance pays a benefit to help replace income lost if you are not able to work because of a disabling illness or injury. Having adequate disability insurance can give you some peace of mind, knowing that you and your family are prepared for whatever may arise.
CSC offers Short-Term Disability (STD) insurance. This is a voluntary employee-paid benefit. Your weekly STD benefit is equal to 60% of your salary, up to a maximum weekly benefit of $3,462. Benefits start after a 7-day or 30-day waiting period, which you elect, and continue for up to 26 weeks as long as you remain disabled.
You also may purchase voluntary Long-Term Disability insurance to pick up where your STD coverage ends in the event you become disabled for more than six months. This insurance pays a monthly benefit equal to 60% of your salary, up to a maximum monthly benefit of $15,000. Benefits start after a 180-day waiting period, and continue to age 65.
